Are you on a bus route?
Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and SCAT Plus provide transportation service to JFCS. JFCS is located on Bus Route #1 and #6. ^BACK TO TOP^

How do I schedule a counseling session?
At JFCS, help is just a phone call away. Please call us at 941-366-2224 to speak with an intake worker. Based on your needs, you will be assigned to a professional social worker who can help you. You can also use the CONTACT US page on our website to contact the agency. ^BACK TO TOP^

What are the counseling fees?
Counseling fees are determined on a sliding fee scale. The basic fee is $175 per session. Third party insurance is accepted. Medicare and secondary insurance is accepted. ^BACK TO TOP^

What are the qualifications of your counseling staff?
All of our counseling staff are trained professionals. Most are licensed clinical social workers with advanced degrees. ^BACK TO TOP^

Do I have to be Jewish to receive services?
No. JFCS provides services on a non-denominational basis to the entire community. ^BACK TO TOP^

Do you offer emergency assistance?
JFCS operates a Kosher Food Pantry for clients and has limited funds available for emergency assistance for individuals who meet criteria for assistance. ^BACK TO TOP^

How can out of town family members make a referral for services?
Simply call our office at 941-366-2224 to make a referral. You will speak to an intake worker who will then assign a professional counselor to provide you with direct support. ^BACK TO TOP^

What support groups do you offer?
JFCS offers several support groups addressing issues such as caregiving, grief, anger management, parenting skills and more.

  • Anger Management support groups are offered in Sarasota
  • Bereavement support groups are offered in Sarasota
  • Caregiver support groups are offered in Sarasota and Venice
  • Family support groups are offered in North Port and Venice
  • Marriage Workshops are offered in Sarasota
  • Parenting Classes are offered in Sarasota
  • Senior Outreach Services Group Programs are offered on Longboat Key, Sarasota and Venice

How can I volunteer at JFCS?
Volunteers are vital to JFCS. All volunteers must complete applications, undergo background checks and screening and attend mandatory program training sessions. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Mentor or tutor youth participating in our school based programs
  • Outreach as a friendly visitor to a hospital patient, homebound senior or resident of a nursing home or assisted living facility
  • Offer support and advocacy for individuals and their families facing a life threatening illness
  • Conduct Jewish religious services in skilled nursing homes and assisted living facilities
  • Provide office and clerical support to the agency
