Ongoing Programs & Support Groups

JFCS offers a variety of support groups to help individuals overcome life’s challenges.  Pre-registration is required for all groups.  Please call the listed JFCS staff at (941) 366-2224 to register or for additional information. 

Alzheimer’s Support and Education Network (ASEN) - ASEN provides support and services to those in our community living alone with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia (ADRD) and for those caring for someone diagnosed with ADRD. In collaboration with a number of community partners, specific services include support groups, respite, individual and family counseling sessions, community trainings, and connections to essential resources. Bereavement Support Group

This 6-session group provides opportunities to deal with grief, share experiences, receive support and discover new ways to cope. The cost is $36 per person for entire series. Call for dates of upcoming groups. Sponsored in part by The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee. Call Jennifer Singer.

Fridays: 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Venice)

Caregivers participate in a weekly support group to cope with challenging behaviors and gain knowledge about community resources.

Holocaust Survivor’s Havurah Group

3rd Thursday of the month, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Kobernick House,

1951 N. Honore Avenue, Sarasota

All survivors are invited to attend these monthly gatherings to find out the latest on Claims Conference information, enjoy a light nosh and participate in lively discussions.  This group is sponsored by JFCS, Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services, The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee and the Claims Conference.  Call Jan Alston.

Mindset Brain Health Classes

This program offers an organized approach to everyday living and provides activities to stimulate memory and thinking.  Participants learn how to exercise their brain, create healthy habits and improve communication.  The cost is $25 per person for 4 sessions.  Pre-registration is required and pre-assessment may be required.  Call Katie Scott.

Relationship Classes

Couples and individuals can learn how to improve communication, relationship skills, family law information, money management skills, parenting education, job skills training, and receive personalized support. This program is free and includes free meals and free child care for children up to 10 years old. Classes are offered in English and Spanish, weekday and evening hours in Manatee, Sarasota, and South Sarasota County. Call Ronni Blumenthal x 145.

Senior Outreach Services

Tuesdays: 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Jewish Congregation of Venice)

Wednesdays: 11:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m. or 12:00 - 2:30 p.m. (JFCS)

Thursdays: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Villa San Marcos, Venice)

Fridays: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (JFCS)

Older adults can maintain their independence, increase their involvement with friends and community, and enhance their mental health through education and social activities. Medicare assignment accepted. Lunch is provided and transportation is available by our handicapped accessible van to the JFCS location only.  Call Pamela Baron.

Senior Social Club

Tuesdays: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Older adults can enjoy socializing and participating in specialized activities such as brain fitness, music therapy, expressive arts, and wellness education. Lunch is provided and transportation is available. The cost is $18 per week; a fee waiver option is available.  Call Katie Scott.

S.T.A.R.S. Program: Successful Talented Adults Reaching Skyward

Wednesdays: 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

This program offers adults with developmental disabilities, age 18 years and older, an opportunity to build their self-esteem and enhance self-respect while learning valuable life and social skills.  Family and caregiver support is an integral part of the ongoing program.  Call Isaac Gurfinchel.
