Media Releases/Grant Writer

Full Time Position
Reports to: Director of Community Outreach

Function: The Media Releases/Grants Writer will be a member of the Community Outreach team who will write media releases as well as research, write, coordinate and submit grant applications. This position will also involve distributing media releases and preparing grant progress reports. In addition, the Media Releases/Grants Writer is responsible for researching and identifying corporate, foundation, and government grant opportunities; cultivating and stewarding relationships with granting organizations; working with staff to prepare compelling grant applications; and monitoring and reporting outcomes as required by funders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing and distributing media releases;
  • Identifying and preparing grant applications in accordance with funder requirements and program needs;
  • Managing an annual grants’ submission and reporting calendar, tracking all application deadlines, focus of and amount of requests, and results;
  • Making simple updates to the events/calendar page, on the website and social media pages

Other Duties as Assigned:

As a member of the Community Outreach team, the Writer – Media Releases/Grants will assist as needed to other marketing related tasks to promote and support JFCS and its programs.

Skills Required:

  • Excellent writing, editing and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, emphasizing the ability to listen and hear others
  • 5 years’ experience working in the non-profit sector
  • 3 years non-profit grant writing experience
  • 2-3 years press release/copywriting experience
  • Proven track record with successfully identifying and securing grants.
  • Ability to create impactful press releases
  • Flexibility, proactive approach, and “team player” attitude a must
  • Interested in growing resources and partnerships
  • Knowledge of local foundation and corporate community a plus

Required Training:
Oriented within the first three months of hire to:

  • the organization’s mission, philosophy, goals, and services;
  • the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population;
  • the organization’s place within its community;
  • the organization’s personnel manual;
  • lines of accountability and authority within the organization;
  • specific trainings provided by funders, as available; and
  • all COA-specific and JFCS required trainings.
