Parent Advocate/School Based Liaison

Reports to:  Lead School-Based Program Coordinator

Job Summary/Function Parent Advocate/ School-Based Liaison: 

The Parent advocate supports families by providing case management services, targeted at promoting parent/guardian engagement in their child’s care and schooling. The parent advocate communicates with the family and assist by providing resource referrals for transportation, employment, and other economic concerns and needs. The Parent Advocate also provides support to the CTC School-Based program by assisting with data entry, special program assistance, and report assistance.

Qualifications

Parent Advocate/ School-Based Liaison: Ability to engage parents and families to promote engagement in counseling services. Ability to multitask in order to complete assignments in an orderly and timely manner.  Ability to apply organizational skills and be detail oriented in order to provide input and assistance with program reporting and data management.  Works collaboratively with other agency programs in order to assist in coordination of special programs, assigned tasks, and program referrals.  Required to pass a background screening.

Physical Requirements: 

This position requires corrected vision, speech, and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks. This position requires the ability to drive and have regular access to a reliable automobile. This position requires the ability to lift 10 pounds.

Education: 

Parent Advocate/School-Based Liaison: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program.

Duties & Responsibilities:  

Parent Advocate:

  • Contact parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and arrange to meet with them in their homes, at school, or other agreed upon location.
  • Document all contacts with parents or legal guardians in student’s case records
  • Match mentor volunteers with students
  • Facilitate the intake process including familiarizing parent(s) with the CTC program, their and their children’s client rights and responsibilities and their children’s CTC goals.
  • Enhance parent’s understanding of their role in promoting and supporting their children’s progress within CTC and school: assist parents in developing ways to promote learned positive behaviors within both the home and school setting.
  • For those CTC students assigned a mentor and/or tutor, engage in regular contact with the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to obtain feedback regarding the progress of the service. When appropriate and feasible, involve the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) in supporting the development of a positive mentoring/tutoring relationship.
  • Assist parent(s) and legal guardian(s) in following through with recommended service referrals including assisting parents in overcoming potential barriers to accessing and/or following up on recommended services.

School-Based Liaison:

  • Assist with School-Based program data entry and management.
  • Provide assistance and support of special programs.
  • Provide assistance and input in completion of program reports.
  • Completion of client intake process into School-Based program as needed.
  • Assist in implementation and provision of Summer Enrichment program.
  • Coordinate and oversee CTC mentoring program.

  • Excellent time management skills and effort to meet assigned situations and work demands.
  • Ability to comply with all HIPAA regulations, keep confidential information about staff, clients, agency and the within the community in accordance with all current standards.
  • Sensitivity to service populations and socio-economic issues.

Training Requirements:

  • All COA-specific and JFCS required trainings
  • Oriented within the first six months of hire to:
  1. The organization’s mission, philosophy, goals, and services;
  2. The cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population;
  3. The organization’s place within its community;
  4. The organization’s personnel manual; and
  5. Lines of accountability and authority within the organization.
  • Training on proper documentation techniques and the maintenance and security of case records
  • Required Science-Based Prevention Training in accordance with F.S. 65D-30.004 (31) (d)
