Tikun Olam Repairing the World
In the spirit of traditional community and communal responsibility, JFCS proudly offers Jewish Healing as an extension of services.
The Community Chaplain at JFCS provides a continuum of support services with the concept of serving individuals through healing and culture. Meeting a myriad of needs among the community, The Jewish Healing program facilitates support and guidance throughout the following programs.
Bikkur Cholim in Hebrew means “visiting the sick,” and in the spirit of Jewish tradition, trained volunteers offer support and companionship in order to help people feel happy and uplifted, and to alleviate loneliness and isolation.
JFCS has an array of programming available to support individuals experiencing grief and loss. These programs are intended to help people discover effective ways to cope and provide emotional healing through the guidance of our knowledgeable counseling staff.
Having the support of others is essential to begin the healing process through grieving. Individual and group sessions are available via the JFCS Bikkur Cholim/Jewish Healing Program, sponsored in part by The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee. Pre-Registration is required.
Our six-week bereavement support group includes opportunities to:
- Connect with others in similar life circumstances
- Share what’s working for you, and what’s not, so you can build a happier life experience
- Begin to laugh and look differently at the things the world is offering you now
- Be guided and supported as you walk along this new path
Religious services are provided by JFCS to area senior living residents through this program.
Holocaust Survivor Services
Experienced case managers assist survivors in identifying challenges as well as provide connections to financial resources, when necessary.
Financial Assistance Program
Individuals and families throughout the Jewish Community who have experienced an unexpected financial crisis can find support through this program. A JFCS case manager works closely with beneficiaries, forging connections to helpful financial resources, and educational support by establishing a budget and financial goals to assist individuals to get back on track.
The Community Chaplain at JFCS provides religious support and outreach to Jewish inmates at local and state correctional facilities.

You make my life better, sweeter and richer.
I don’t know what I’d do without you.
You are such a blessing to me. I feel as if God knows how much I needed a very special friend with kindness and spiritual depth. He sent you to me.
