Afghan Refugees Resettlement Relief Donation Drive

JFCS is partnering with The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee to conduct an Afghan refugees resettlement relief donation drive on Sunday, September 26, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 2688 Fruitville Road in Sarasota. Essential items are needed for men, women and children. However, the greatest need is housing. JFCS is asking local landlords, Airbnb hosts, Vrbo owners, and anyone who has extra room in their homes, to provide free housing to Afghan refugees. Individuals can email JFCS at Marketing@JFCS-Cares.org to provide the following details:

  • Your contact information
  • Where the housing is located
  • The type of housing (bedroom, apartment or single family home)
  • How many refugees you can help
  • Any restrictions that may apply

Donated items must be new with tags or intact packaging (as applicable).

TOILETRIES BASKET

  • Toilet paper
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Soap
  • One toothbrush per person
  • Toothpaste
  • Personal hygiene items (including sanitary napkins)
  • Deodorant

MATERNITY/FEMININE BASKET

  • Gender neutral clothing
  • Wipes
  • Diapers
  • Formula
  • Car Seat
  • Tampons
  • Pads

BED AND BATH BASKET

  • 1 bath towel per person
  • 1 set of sheets and blankets for each bed
  • 1 pillow and pillowcase for each person
  • Alarm Clock
  • Light bulbs for lamps

KITCHEN BASKET

  • 1 place setting of tableware (fork, knife, spoon) per person
  • 1 place setting of dishes (plate, bowl, cup) per person
  • Pots and pans (at least 1 sauce pan, 1 frying pan, 1 baking dish)
  • Mixing and serving bowls
  • 1 set of kitchen utensils (spatula, wooden spoon, sharp knife)
  • Serving utensils
  • Can Opener

MISCELLANEOUS BASKET

  • Accordion style files to store important paperwork
  • Watches
  • Paper

CLEANING SUPPLY BASKET

  • Dish soap
  • Bathroom and kitchen cleanser
  • Sponges or cleaning rags and/or paper towels
  • Laundry detergent
  • Two waste baskets
  • Mop or broom

ART AND CRAFTS SUPPLIES

Global Sunshine Artisans is a group of refugee women who handmake crafts inspired by their native cultures to sell at craft shows and other festivals. The income raised helps to support their families. Donations to support their work such as fabric, sewing machines, and crafting items are appreciated.

BACKPACKS & SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Newly arriving children need basic school supplies year- round.

BOOK BASKET

Reading books with illustrations or games that teach English and cultural concepts are always needed.
