People Living With Dementia (PLWD) Support Group

JFCS is offering our People Living With Dementia (PLWD) Support Group at our office at 2688 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota.
These free weekly meetings are meant to offer support, education, training, and opportunities to meet with others who face the challenges associated with people living with dementia.

When: Thursdays 10:45-11:45am

  • PLWD – This is a memory loss group for clients diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and mild cognitive impairment. The purpose of the group is to process thoughts and feelings associated with their diagnosis and discuss challenges clients face such as moving into an assisted living facility, challenges remembering things, navigating a sense of loss of independence (no longer able to drive or live alone), etc. This is the group we currently have combined levels of memory loss until a clinician is hired in the new year and we can split the groups again.
  • The group meets from 10:45 am to 11:45/12:00 pm followed by a group lunch “It’s so much more than lunch!” with our volunteers and clinician. The purpose of the lunch hour is to provide socialization in a relaxed environment. It runs from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
