Encouraging and supporting the emotional well-being of individuals, families and our community is important to us. JFCS understands the pressure of coping with a wide range of issues and conflicts to provide a safe, private, and compassionate environment for individuals and families to receive high-quality outpatient counseling services.

JFCS Counseling supports people who are facing adversities through evidence based, trauma-informed care. Counselors provide children, youth, adults, and seniors the needed supports and interventions to recover from a traumatic event or series of events. JFCS provides these services at our campuses and in schools, homes, and other community spaces.

Services & Programs

Adolescent Diversion & Assistance Program

ADAP serves youth, ages 11-17, who are involved with the juvenile justice program or are exhibiting behaviors that put them at risk of involvement with juvenile justice. ADAP offers individual and group counseling with an emphasis on learning better coping skills, anger management, and social skills to reduce the risk of repetitive destructive behaviors. Individual, group, and family counseling is available for adolescents and families needing support in Sarasota and Manatee Counties free of charge.

Community Youth Response Services

The Community Youth Response Services (CYRS) was created to help fill gaps in services for youth needing mental health support. CYRS provides free counseling services to youth, ages 9-17, for non-emergent mental health crises that require immediate intervention to stabilize clients. CYRS is for youth who are experiencing high levels of distress but are not in need of crisis intervention. Services are provided free of charge to youth and families for up to 90 days. Clients must live in Sarasota County.

Counseling

Everyone faces challenges at different points in their lives, however there’s no need to face them alone. Our counseling program provides family, individual, couple, and group counseling to people of all ages. Counseling assists in building confidence, using existing strengths and learning skills to overcome difficult situations.

Individual and group sessions are available at our offices or within the home. Medicare and insurance assignment are accepted.

Voluntary Interim Placement – Enhanced Recovery (VIP-ER)

The VIP-ER Program is a long-term residential substance abuse treatment program located at The Salvation Army Sarasota Command at 1400 10th Street, Sarasota, FL 34246.

VIP-ER is the collaborative effort of 6 agencies that partner together to provide services to individuals residing at the Salvation Army who are struggling with substance abuse and related issues. The residential portion of VIP-ER is approximately three to four months in length, followed by one year of follow up services.

JFCS provides an array of services to participants while they are enrolled in the VIP-ER Program. JFCS provides Wraparound Facilitation, Family Unification Counseling, and 1 year of follow up services to support participants.

Participants Must Meet All Three Requirements To Qualify:

  • Must be 18 years old and above
  • Residents of Sarasota County (for at least 90 days prior to entry – verifiable by state issued ID, Lease, or Sarasota County Court records)
  • Have an issue with alcohol and/or substance abuse
